Why an

Entrepreneurial Scientist?

It is our duty to society.

It is where we need to be as scientists of today if we want to evolve in a healthy direction as humanity, to provide both environmental and social impact.

Evolution of a Scientist

Today, more than ever, our society needs the power of innovation coming from academia and the impact it can have on the world.

The challenges we face in terms of the environment are unprecedented and require bold and innovative solutions, especially in the fight against climate change and the loss of biodiversity.

Entrepreneurial science can play a critical role in addressing these issues by combining scientific research with the agility and drive of the entrepreneurial spirit.

Entrepreneurial scientists are not limited by bureaucratic constraints or conventional ways of thinking. They have the freedom to explore new ideas, challenge the status quo and create innovative solutions that can have a real impact on the world.

There has never been a more critical time for entrepreneurial scientists to step forward and make a difference!

But it's not just about coming up with new ideas; it's about taking those ideas and turning them into real-world solutions. Entrepreneurial scientists have the ability to move quickly, bring their ideas to market, and scale their impact. This is crucial in the fight against climate change and biodiversity loss, where time is of the essence, and we need solutions that can be implemented quickly and efficiently.

As we work to create an infinitely sustainable future, it's important to remember that innovation and progress are not just about technology.

They're about people.

This is why we believe it is so essential to create a community of science founders in Europe, which is why we are developing the Entrepreneurial Scientists European Platform (ESEP).

Together, we believe we can act as a network of individuals with the common goal of bringing an entrepreneurial mindset to academics, inspiring new career opportunities, and opening up new pathways to bring innovations from the lab to the real world.

An entrepreneurial scientist is more than just the commercialization of scientific findings.

It's a statement. A statement that says “I care about the world. I want to do my part to make it better.

I am so excited that I am in a position to drive this change”.

To all the entrepreneurial scientists out there, or the ones thinking to become - please keep pushing forward and join us!

The world needs your creativity, your bold ideas, and your drive to make a difference. With your help, we can create an infinitely sustainable and vibrant world for generations to come.

The following are ESEP founding members:

Dr. Dragana Vukasinovic, Founder and CEO of Fauna Smart Technologies, DK

Passionate life scientist working with her driven team to restore planetary health by transforming agroecosystems into greener, healthier and more efficient ones. The core team of Fauna holds domain expertise in Crop Protection Science and Food Security. Using different technologies, from satellites to lab-on-paper, they are leveraging knowledge on diverse agroecosystems (near)real-time and in-field to provide timely insights into environmentally friendly and economically viable actions needed. Innovations in Fauna are based on long-term academic research and already available technologies to provide scalable business, thus connections within these systems are making it cutting-edge.

Dr. Adam Glen, Founder and co-CEO of Unicorn Biotechnologies, UK

A passionate biotech founder building next-generation bioproduction tools to power the cell-based manufacturing revolution together with his driven multidisciplinary team. Unicorn’s solutions are removing the manufacturing barriers preventing transformative products - from cultivated meat through to next-gen therapeutics entering mass markets. By solving this bottleneck, they are improving human and planetary health and powering the booming bio-economy. Adam also holds an Entrepreneur-in-Residence Fellowship awarded by the Royal Society, the world’s oldest scientific academy, with its Fellows being considered some of the most eminent scientists in their fields. Adam’s role in this Fellowship is to inspire, educate, empower, and demonstrate pathways to building a biotech company thereby enhancing biotech company formation rates by influencing and assisting other scientists to either start-up or to spin out.

Dr. Jenifer Clausell Tormos, Founder and CEO of Develop Diverse, DK

A passionate biotech researcher turned social entrepreneur. Jenifer’s vision is to create equal opportunities in the workplace by supporting everyone in a company to write inclusively and learn about their own biases in an easy, simple and effective way. Jenifer and her team have built a Software as a Service platform that real-time detects biased words in corporate communication, and proposes inclusive alternatives; while educating the user on which groups of people are not being included by these words and why such a word is biased (non-inclusive). The platform allows users to convert the five most prevalent social biases – gender, ethnicity, age, neuro diversity and physical disabilities – into non-biased content. It is based on scientific peer-reviewed research and Artificial Intelligence powers it. Some of the customers include Dyson, Volvo cars, Danske Bank and Vestas, but the platform is paving the way for a resolution to any exclusion in 35+countries across 5 continents.

This website communication was checked by Jeni’s platform for non-biased words :-)

and it is 100% inclusive! Therefore, we are looking forward to seeing a diverse group of amazing humans as a part of the Entrepreneurial Scientists platform!
